Sussex Police is calling on people with speech or communication difficulties to register for a Pegasus card.

The cards, which store people’s details to a database, is free and the scheme aims to make things easier for such people in an emergency situation.

Anyone who registers will be issued with a PIN number which will allow police to access their details rather than having to ask someone who may have difficulty communicating.

A spokesman said: “Pegasus is not just about contacting the police by phone, you can also show your card to a police officer, member of police staff or other emergency services staff should you require assistance in person.” To apply, log on to www.sussex.police.uk/help-centre
