A new bus link between West Green and a nearby doctors’ surgery has been branded as inadequate at a NHS meeting.

Metrobus has revised its 801 and 802 routes to provide the only direct bus routes between the two neighbourhoods.

The bus operator will provide four return services per day on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Saturday (May 30).

Crawley Clinical Commissioning Group’s (CCG) Governing Body met in public at the Charis Centre, West Green, on Thursday (May 21).

A doctors’ surgery in West Green has been closed.

People registered with it were moved to Leacroft Surgery in Langley Green.

Dennis Williams, chairman of West Green Community Forum, raised concerns about residents who needed to use the bus to see their GP.

He said: “The bus service only operate three days a week.

“It’s really not adequate for those people who are trying to get to Langley Green from here.”

Dr Amit Bhargava, chief clinical officer for the CCG, agreed.

Dr Bhargava, who is a GP at Southgate Medical Practice, hoped the service would become more regular if enough people used it.

He suggested the issue be raised with Bill Ward (Lab, West Green), who he praised for his work to introduce the service.

Mr Ward said at the time the service was announced: “It’s great that Metrobus has taken on board their customers’ comments and improved this service for residents in West Green.

“I have no doubt that it will make a huge difference to those who need it.”

Older persons and disabled concessionary passes will be accepted on the revised routes.
