Parsons shines

WITH a team depleted by injuries, holidays and exam revision, Crawley AC finished fourth in their second Southern Women's League match at Horsham on Saturday.

Only five junior athletes were available, and despite most of the seniors covering multiple events, the team finished with 101 points, 10 points behind third-placed Chelmsford.

Horsham were second on 144 points, and Radley won with 169 points.

Helen Parsons again shone for the seniors, winning both the 400m and the 200m B string races, and anchoring the 4x400m relay team to another win, along with Carly Wenham, Emily McLoughlin and Jessica Douglas.

On the field, Jodie Jacobs again threw over 40m (42.31m) in the discus, and Jasmin Dotzek and Amy Barclay gave Crawley a double win in the A and B string long jump.

There was also a strong showing in the hurdles with Amy Barclay and Tayo MacCanna both winning over 80m, and Ellen Franks winning over 300m.

In the juniors, there were other double wins in both the 800m (Aby Ashby-Simmons and Gaby Read-Cayton) and Javelin (Holly Webb with 31.15m and Gaby, again).
