Police have donated £300 to a new community group in East Grinstead.
The donation has been given to members of the Stone Quarry Crew to help fund the newly created Stone Quarry Residents’ Community Group.
The group’s chairman, Sarah Howland, said: “The Stone Quarry Crew is a new community group made up of residents from the Stone Quarry Estate in East Grinstead.
“Its vision and purpose is to improve the quality of community cohesion on the Stone Quarry Estate, empower residents to promote togetherness, tolerance and community wellbeing and to promote the good and positive aspects of the estate.
“The group plans to bring the community together through social events and activities that strengthen the community for the residents and showcase it to the wider community.
“By trying to bring back the traditional values of local communities and provide all residents, young and old alike with a revitalised pride in their community, it can start to turn round the reputation and cohesion of this estate.”
The donation comes from the Police Property Act Fund (PPAF), made up of monies received by the police from property confiscated by order of the court and then sold.
Sergeant Graeme Prentice, of the Mid Sussex neighbourhood police team, said: “I’m delighted that Stone Quarry has formed its very own residents’ community group, The Stone Quarry Crew.
“Sussex Police, in conjunction with Affinity Sutton, Mid-Sussex District Council, East Grinstead Town Council and other key partners have worked hard to find key individuals within this community to take forward the foundations implemented by the Stone Quarry Community Partnership.
“I hope that the £300 donated to the group will go towards the group’s community events and attract further residents from the estate to become involved with the venture.”
