Extension plan could mean jobs for town

A care home extension bid could see jobs created and more beds for the elderly.

Ifield Park Care Home’s plans would create 18-new rooms at the Rusper Road site and mean the home could take on the equivalent of 24 full-time staff.

The bid includes extending and altering Woodroffe Benton House and Ellwood Place and demolishing former staff accommodation to build a ten-bed elderly mentally infirm (EMI) care unit.

A design and access statement, submitted with the bid, said demand for care was growing but the supply of beds in the area as limited, with a number of care homes closing in recent years.

Ifield Park is currently running at more than 98 per cent occupancy.
