REVIEW: Senior Drama Easter School
THE STUDIO of The Capitol, Horsham was definitely THE place to be.
Twenty-three young students left their audience open mouthed at the range of characters, emotions and confidence shown in a scripted play, a devised play and musical theatre numbers.
After only four days of classes in technique and rehearsals the young students (11 to 19 years) reminded their audience that the bigger the challenge the more they will rise to it.
The scripted play started an evening based on rebirth and new beginnings as befitted an Easter Drama School.
The story told in Genesis of Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel and Noah, all told by survivors in a fall-out shelter, produced some lively and very up to date similes.
The devised play 'Samantha's Diary' illustrated the events of many 'firsts' in her young life. First day at school, first boyfriend, etc.
The evening culminated with two numbers from a musical celebrating the mixing of cultures in America. Beautiful, expressive singing and exuberant dancing sent the audience home in high spirits.
The students thanked their tutors Kate Clarke, singing and stage management.
Amanda Jenkins, acting tutor, choreographer and lighting, and Rene Martin, artistic director, reminded the students of the Summer Drama School now booking at the Capitol and Saturday Drama Workshops.
