Students learn how to stay safe on the roads

East Grinstead students learned how to stay safe on the roads last Wednesday after watching a show in the Chequer Mead Theatre in De La Warr Road. The show, Safe Drive Stay Alive, is aimed at 16-18 year olds, who are either already driving or learning to drive, set up by the council. More than 80,000 students have watched the show.

The show, Safe Drive Stay Alive, is aimed at 16-18 year old students, who are either already driving or learning to drive and was organised by West Sussex County Council (WSCC).

Since the initiative began in 2005 the show has been seen by more than 80,000 students in West Sussex, a WSCC spokeswoman said.

The show aims to make young drivers aware of their responsibilities and the devastating impact a serious road traffic collision (RTC) can have on them, their friends and family, and the wider community.

The successful road safety awareness campaign was re-launched at the end of last year to include a brand new film.

The new film, which tells the devastating story of four young people involved in an RTC on a quiet country road, is combined with powerful real-life testimonies from those who have been affected by RTCs including victims, relatives and members of the emergency services.
