A care home for people with learning disabilities has been rated good all round.

Little Smugglers Barn, in Snow Hill, Crawley Down, was inspected by the Care Quality Commission.

Trevor Wilcox, the manager, said he was very proud of his staff.

Trevor, 50, of Pound Hill, said: “It was the professionalism of my staff team.

“They are very committed and very person centred about the people we support.”

The care home houses up to five adults with a learning disability and complex needs including mental health, challenging behaviour and epilepsy.

The Commission inspected the home on February 24.

It published the report on March 31.

The home was given 48 hours’ notice of the visit.

The report stated: “The experiences of people were positive. People told us they felt safe living at the home.

“Staff supported them to live independently and helped with their living skills and self care.

“Staff showed a great understanding about their needs. People were encouraged and supported in daily activities such as going shopping and cooking their own food.”

Trevor said the team now aims to achieve the highest ‘Outstanding’ rating in its next inspection.

He said: “I was hard on myself thinking that we didn’t get Outstanding.

“It’s really difficult to get Outstanding.

“We’ve got something to aim for.”
