A councillor and a Boots spokesman confirmed the retailers will not close any stores in town as a result.

Lorcan Mooney, fund manager for County Oak’s owners, Standard Life Investments UK Retail Park Trust, said: “It’s great to see that County Oak continues to attract some of the best brands, such as TK Maxx and Boots.”

Cllr Peter Smith, Crawley Borough Council cabinet member for economic development, said TK Maxx had no plans to close its store in Queensway.

A spokesman for Boots said: “These plans won’t affect any of our other stores in Crawley.”

Peter Jones, estate manager for Boots UK, added: “We’re thrilled to be taking this next important step in securing a permanent unit at the County Oak Retail Park.

“We’ve been serving the local community from a temporary pharmacy unit on the retail park since December 2014, and while it’s still very early days, we’re looking forward to taking on a larger space where we’ll be able to better serve our customers and patients in Crawley and the surrounding community.”

A Standard Life Investments UK spokesman said the retail park off London Road would undergo redevelopment work to enable the relocation and enlargement of a Next store.

The expansion was due to start shortly and would make it nearly four times bigger – from 15,000 sq ft to 62,000 sq ft over three floors.

It will sell clothes and have a Next Home, the retailer’s home furnishings range.

The existing store would not close during the works, said the spokesman.
