Town centre tennis courts to close for improvements

Tennis courts in Horsham Park are to close from February 23 until mid April while improvement works are carried out.

Horsham District Council says the improvements include new fencing, new surfacing and re-marking.

When finished, there will be three courts solely for tennis and one court available for tennis in summer and for use as a multi-sports area in winter.

A council spokesperson said: “The new courts will be slip resistant and coloured blue with a contrasting green run off area to enable tennis balls to be seen more easily.

“All remaining chain-link fencing will be replaced by solid steel wire fencing which will be much more robust and cost effective to maintain.”

The four courts will be out of action from Monday February 27, though to mid April. They will be available to use over the Easter holidays and then out of action for another week while colour coating is completed. The multi-sports court will remain open during these works.

The council says that, once the works have been completed, a full programme of coaching opportunities will be available.

Meanwhile, a plan for installing floodlighting ready for the autumn months is currently being developed.
