More than £6,000 was distributed to good causes in Crawley during the latest meeting of West Crawley County Local Committee.

The money, from the Community Initiative Fund (CIF), will benefit a wide range of people in the area. Grants were awarded to:

l Gurjar Hindu Union, £2,777.77 towards the costs of staging a dance and drama show.

l Young at Heart Over Sixty’s Club, £277.77 towards the costs of coach hire and a cream tea.

l St Catherine’s Hospice, £1005.55 towards the costs of volunteer training.

Committee Chairman Cllr Chris Oxlade said: “We are delighted to have been able to help such a diverse range of organisations through the Community Initiative Fund.

“The fund is an excellent scheme and, through it, we have been able to give grants to many projects which have made a real difference to people in our area.

“In March, the West Crawley CLC has its last meeting of the financial year and we still have more than £16,000 available to spend. I would actively encourage local projects and organisations to consider getting their applications in now.”

The next meeting of West Crawley CLC will take place on 17 March at 7pm in Crawley Library and applications need to be submitted by February 17.

Application forms and information on how to apply, as well as eligibility criteria, can be found on the Community Initiative Funding page of the West Sussex County Council website or by emailing or calling 03302225409.
