UPDATE: Police confirm East Grinstead man killed after head struck on Gatwick Express

A man who died after reportedly sticking his head out of a train window was from East Grinstead, police have confirmed today (Monday August 8).

The 24-year-old was pronounced dead at Wandsworth Common Station, in south London, after suffering a “serious head injury” on a Gatwick Express train service yesterday evening, British Transport Police said.

A spokesperson said: “A man who died at Wandsworth station yesterday has been identified as a 24-year-old man from East Grinstead in Sussex.

“His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.

“The man sustained serious head injuries on board a Gatwick Express train travelling to Victoria from Gatwick at around 5.30pm.

“Ambulance crews attended the scene but despite their best efforts, he sadly died a short time later.”

Officers said the death is not being treated as suspicious.
