Two men were arrested after attempting to steal from a van in a Crawley hotel car park.

Sussex Police said two men were disturbed while trying to break into a parked van in the car park of the Sandman Hotel, Crawley Avenue, at 8.25pm on Thursday (February 26).

This was good work by all the local officers involved, with the support of the police helicopter. The investigation is continuing.

They made off in a silver Volvo S30 and, after a police pursuit of less than 10 minutes, the car collided with a parked car in The Birches, Three Bridges, and was abandoned in the garden of a house there.

A spokesman said the occupants made off but, following an immediate police search of the area, with the assistance of a police helicopter and dog unit, two men were arrested in gardens of a houses in adjacent Rye Ash.

Two men, aged 19 and 20, were arrested on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle, and are currently in custody for interview and further enquiries.

Chief Inspector Justina Beeken said; “This was good work by all the local officers involved, with the support of the police helicopter. The investigation is continuing.”
