An outdoor screening of Grease, human table football and urban beach complete with deskchairs are among the events planned by Crawley Borough Council to make this summer one to remember.

Called the Big Summer Of Fun, most of the activities will be free and they will all be held in Queens Square and the High Street.

The programme kicks off with a free, outdoor screening of the musical Grease on Wednesday May 28, in the High Street.

A council spokesman said: “This al fresco cinema is ideal for families or groups of friends to enjoy and even come dressed as Pink Ladies or T-Birds.”

Then on Friday May 30 and Saturday May 31, just before the start of the World Cup, there will be a human table football tournament in Queens Square where teams of five-a-side play 10-minute halves in the inflatable pitch whilst attached to a pole, restricting their movements.

The games are suitable for adults and older children and cost just £1 per person per game.

From June 3, a pop-up park and urban beach will be set up in Queens Square, including deck chairs, sand castle building and ice cream!

The spokesman added: “There’ll also be lots of other activities during the summer holidays for everyone to enjoy such as a climbing wall, trampolines, crazy golf and strolling circus skills’ workshops.”

On Saturday June 28 there will also be free parking, all day, in the Orchard Street car park.

The programme of events will end on Saturday August 30 with a live performance in the High Street from the New City Legacy Jazzband from 11am to 2pm.

Alfredo Mendes, Town Centre Manager, said “We have some really fantastic events happening in the town centre offering something to do for all.

“I hope families take the opportunity to get involved and try out new activities to make it a memorable summer.”

The spokesman added: “Don’t forget you can grab yourself a bargain at Crawley’s weekly general market.

“Held in Queens Square every Wednesday and the High Street on Fridays and Saturdays, you’ll find household items, fashion and accessories plus there’s also a great selection of fresh, seasonal fruit, veg, meat and fish on offer.”

All events are weather permitting and subject to change.
