It saw the chariot paraded from the Memorial Gardens and round the town centre before settling in Queens Square for an afternoon of singing, dancing and worship.

The festival, which originated in India 5,000 years ago, is considered to be the oldest street festival in the world.

It represents the deity Krishna taking the form of Lord Jagannatha, who rides the chariot.
