A fire which damaged a sports centre in Horley is being treated as suspicious.

Surrey Police is investigating the fire which was started at the Oakwood Sports Centre, Balcombe Road, overnight on Sunday (July 20/21).

Detectives from Eastern CID were at the scenethis morning investigating alongside Surrey Fire and Rescue Service to establish the full facts.

Officers are not ruling out the possibility the fire may be linked to a series of arsons in the area, including one at a property in Massetts Road, Horley, on July 2, and one at Horley Lawn Tennis Club, in Vicarage Lane, on June 22.

A 43-year-old man from Epsom was arrested on July 5 in connection with the fires, and was released on bail until August 21.
