Willock and Giles leave Crawley Town

STRIKER Calum Willock and defender Chris Giles have left Crawley Town at the end of the busy January transfer window.

Record breaking frontman Charlie Ademeno remains at the club despite a last-gasp attmept to sign him by an unnamed Football League club which only missed the deadline by three minutes.

Willock was on a short-term deal which was up for renewal while Giles' contract has been torn up and he has joined Conference rivals Salisbury City.

Assistant manager Paul Raynor said: "Calum came into the side with a burst of form but it has now been decided he is superflous to requirements. It's a shame because he was a nice guy, he worked hard and fitted in extremely well.

"But he had a few injuries and with Danny Forrest fit and Mikey Malcolm playing well up front, plus Ben King coming through we feel we are covered."

Crawley Town return to action tomorrow (Saturday) at home to Cambridge Utd.

Their opponents are enjoying a poor season by their own high stadnards and instead of being in the play-off zone as they are normally expected to be, they are five places being Crawley in 15th place.

Cambridge have only won twice in the league since October but among their players, striker Danny Crow appears to be their dangerman, with 11 goals to his name so far this campaign.

They could field newcomer Antonio Murray, a central midfielder/striker who has just been signed from Chelmsford.

Midfielder Simon Russell is another new face in their side, having just arrived on loan from York.

And Dave Partridge will probably play in central defence, having made his debut during their 0-0 draw with Salisbury City in the FA Trophy.

Crawley are able to select from a full squad, with no injuries or suspensions.

Paul Raynor said: "Cambridge have lost a few players and have also got the nucleus of a very good side.

"We watched them twice recently against Eastbourne Borough (Cambridge winning 2-0 in the FA Trophy) and against Salisbury and whichever XI their manager Martin Ling puts out has plenty of quality."
