Mark Yates hailed two-goal Rhys Murphy for his best display yet in a Crawley Town shirt against Bristol Rovers.

The on loan Oldham Athletic striker netted two goals in the space of a minute to help Reds to a 2-1 win today.

He first tapped home after a good team move and then crashed a stunner 25-yarder into the top corner seconds later.

And although Matty Taylor pulled a late goal back from the penalty spot, the home side completed a solid defensive display for their fourth straight home win.

Yates said: “It was really good play for the first goal and we talked about getting the ball back as quickly as we could.

“We did and Rhys has picked the ball up just inside their half and wow, what a finish.

“It was really try strike and with a bit of movement and wind against it it flew into the top corner.

“Rhys has been threatening that, he has produced some really good performances and that was his best by some way.”

On the whole display, Yates continued: “We knew it was going to be tough. We started brilliantly, the best start we have had.

“We played some brilliant football in some really good areas, did what we do best and created quite a few really good chances.

“I thought we thoroughly deserved our half-time lead, but you have to give credit to them. They showed what they were about in the second half.

“It’s a 90-minute game and that’s all I am bothered about, over the 90 minutes we deserved our win.

“The second half was not as pretty, wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be without a doubt, but when you are 2-0 up the other team have nothing to lose.

“You could see that from the first minute of the second half, sometimes that happens.

“We stood firm. There were a lot of balls into the box, but ones that I would expect my goalkeeper and centre-halves to deal with, which they predominantly did.”
