LETTER: Ovarian cancer

March is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month and GRACE, the Guildford based gynaecological cancer charity which supports women across Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire, aims to raise awareness and highlight the symptoms in order to promote earlier diagnosis.

GRACE is encouraging people to support Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month by hosting a Lilac & Lace tea party, an informal tea party where friends can gather socially and help raise money for this important charity. All funds raised will go to GRACE’s future ovarian cancer research projects. Ovarian cancer is known as the ‘silent killer’ as it is difficult to detect and treat - it accounts for 5% of all cancer deaths in females in the UK. However, earlier diagnosis could save lives. We see many women in our clinics every day who have been experiencing symptoms of ovarian cancer but, for one reason or another, have gone undetected. Awareness is vital and I urge people who are worried about symptoms - such as persistent symptoms of bloating and discomfort in the abdomen - to seek advice. To host a Lilac & Lace tea party, call 07930 957627 or email Nicola at [email protected]
