Have your say

We would like to say a huge thank you to Charlie Arratoon and her team for organising the Big Sleep Out on October 15.

Over thirty people took part and raised a considerable sum of money for Open House which is the only venue in Crawley catering for those who have found themselves homeless.

Some people fail to realise that without an address it is difficult to get financial support or be interviewed for a job or even to keep a job if they already have one. Open House offers accommodation, support and an address. They have helped to turn around lives of many people. Thank you Open House.

It is so easy for any one of us to become homeless. Ask yourselves - what would you do if you suddenly found yourself without a roof over your head? The sleep out was also to raise awareness of homelessness. At least during our night of being ‘homeless’, we thankfully had a key to the public toilets!

We also need to say thank you to Tilgate Bakery for kindly supplying much needed soup with rolls and I believe, curry. Thank you also to Starbucks who provided hot drinks around midnight and thank you to McDonalds who greeted us at 6am with McMuffins and orange juice. Yes we did share our spoils with the only true homeless person sleeping in Queens Square. I hope ‘Our Gang’ did not disturb him too much. Thank you also to the police officers who popped round to see us and a huge thank you to all those generous people who sponsored us and helped to raise much needed funds for this worthy organisation and thank you again Charlie. You are a star!
