JAMIE Stevens says Crawley need to get more
aggressive if they want to compete at the top end of the table next season.
The former Boston United centre-back, 18, picked up the Crawley Observer's young player of the season award last Tuesday night but believes there is still something missing from his game - a bit of old fashioned nastiness.

He said: "I think I need to be a bit nastier on the pitch.

"It's not in my nature to be nasty on the field, I think I'm too nice.

"I think I need to work on that, and as a team too.

"If you look in the Conference there are defenders like that everywhere.

"For example the Halifax defence on Tuesday night - they just bullied forwards."

At 5ft 11ins Stevens admits he is not the biggest defender but Reds' boss Steve Evans did not want him to bulk up during the season.

"The gaffer has been adament not to get me on heavy weights because I've got a good spring for headers.

"That is something I might look at over the summer because I'm not the biggest dender."

As well as picking up our award, Crawley fans also voted him the club's best newcomer this season.

He added: "You're always flattered by the fans thinking you're one of the best players, you feel a bit of pride from it."

Player of the season, Dannie Bulman, also gives his views on Crawley's season in this week's Crawley Observer.
