AS THE cricket season gets underway this weekend, Three Bridges first team captain Mark Newell says his side are relishing their next campaign.
Pre-season has been disrupted by poor weather, meaning that two of their pre-season games had to be abandoned.

Mark said: "We've kept some of our old faces and we have had a couple of new ones come in as well.

"Our aim is to improve year after year and we will be looking for a midtable finish this year."

But to reach their aim Mark says that they need to pick up points against the higher-placed teams in the Sussex Premier League.

Australian all-rounder Michael Shaw is Bridges' overseas player for the season and Mark has high hopes for him.

He said: "He's played at a very high standard in Australia and has gelled well with the lads already."

Their first game is against Chichester away on Saturday, start time is 12.30.

Mark added: "They are a bit of a nemesis team. They have an overseas player called Fazl-e-Akbar who played for Pakistan, and he always gets a lot of wickets against us."

Meanwhile, Ifield Cricket Club and Crawley will be making their debuts in the expanded Sussex League.

Ifield host Goring-By-Sea in Division Three West while Crawley travel to Seaford in Division Three East.

Crawley Eagles are at home to fellow Crawley club Ram in Sussex Invitation League Division One. Play starts at Cherry Lane Playing Fields in Langley Green at 1.30pm.
