CRAWLEY Town skipper Tyrone Thompson is to leave Reds to sign for Blue Square Premier rivals Torquay.
He had said he would stay at Broadfield Stadium for the next campaign but has now decided to take up a better offer from the Gills.

Thompson had offered to carry out his promise to stay at Crawley, despite the offer, but was persuaded to take the new deal by the Town management because his heart was not completely set on signing for Reds.

Assistant manager Paul Raynor explained: "Tyrone had agreed a new deal. The kid went on holiday and as the majority of our retained players he was subjected to a number of offers, one of which was outstanding financially which we could not get anywhere near. We wish him every success."

Reds boss Steve Evans added: "We wish him luck and although he leaves here he will always be welcome back. Some clubs have huge budgets to spend and yes it makes our job tough, but things in life that are decent are never cheap."
