CRAWLEY made up for their poor defeat to Halifax last Tuesday by beating Torquay United 2-1 in the last game of the season.
Torquay United 1
Sills 86
Crawley Town 2
Hall 16, Cook 85
The Reds travelled to Plainmoor on the back of a 4-0 hammering and were not given much hope of ending their season on a high against Torquay.
But, the Gulls are looking to the playoffs and with that in mind concentration on winning league games might have slipped.
That takes nothing away from an inspired Crawley performance in which they dominated for large periods of the game.
And there was yet another inspired performance up skipper Tyrone Thompson filling in up front.
Jon-Paul Pittman missed out again with a hamstring injury, while Ryan Hall made a comeback to the starting line-up along with Brad Thomas who stepped in for the missing James Krause.
The Reds were given the perfrct start on 16 mminutes when Ryan Hall struck the ball from 20-yards giving Torquay's 'keeper Simon Rayner no chance.
The on-loan Palace winger has been impressive since he arrived at Crawley, and it is only a shame for Reds boss Steve Evans that he won't be able to keep him for next season.
Much of the game after that goal saw chances for both sides but it wasn't until there was five minutes left on the clock that the 3,000 strong Plainmoor crowd got to see another goal.
On 85 minutes, Crawley's advantage was doubled when Cook, through on goal, rounded Rayner and coolly tucked the ball home.
Just a minute later, Tim Sills headed past Bayes for Torquay to make the score 2-1.
But, it was nothing more than a consolation for the Gulls as Crawley held on to gain an impressive end of season win.
