ATHLETICS: Crawley athletes set the standard
CRAWLEY athletes shone on a day when the Sussex Schools endured mixed fortunes at the South East Schools Inter-county match at Southampton.
Sussex gained fourth team spot in all but the junior girls group, where they finished fifth.
There were few winners although there were another five athletes who gained badly needed English Schools standards.
In the intermediate boys hammer throw Matt Lasis (Crawley AC) and Robert Duke (Worthing) scored maximum points with Matt throwing 54.48m and Robert a personal best and Schools Standard 48.02.
In the same age-group Crawley's Harry Lane won the high jump with 1.90m which was bang on standard while Jordan Auburn won the junior boys 80m hurdles.
Among the girls, Katie Hardcastle (Chichester) added another one centimetre to her triple jump personal best leaping 11.14m for victory in the intermediate group while Lucy Stickland (Horsham) cleared 3.35m for yet another pole vault victory.
And Louisa James (Hastings) notched up the third A victory in the intermediate hammer, throwing 44.88m.
In the junior girls it was Grace Hailstone (Brighton) who was again in good form throwing 36.14m to win the javelin.
