Palace vs Brighton team news: McShane wants derby day goal

Albion favourite Paul McShane has poured petrol on the derby day fire by talking about how he would love to find the net tonight.

The Irish centre half, who scored the winning goal when the two sides met at Selhurst back in 2005, told local press in south London, “I’ll be expecting criticism and I’ll be a bit disappointed if I don’t get it.

“It is water off a duck’s back.

“I’m just looking forward to the game and performing well for Crystal Palace. A goal would definitely be a bonus but all I’m hoping is that we get the win.”

Despite many a crossed finger from Brighton fans, McShane is set to start tonight while Palace captain Paddy McCarthy serves a one match ban after getting his marching order in the Eagles’ recent Carling Cup semi final exit.

Dean Moxey could return after a knee injury and Mustapha Dumbaya is back in contention after being cup tied for the Cardiff game.

For the Albion Matt Sparrow seems doubtful with an ankle injury – despite excitedly tweeting from the team coach throughout the morning – while Kazenga Lua Lua looks set to miss out with his hamstring problem.

Craig Noone – who has been the subject of deadline day interest from Cardiff – will also be left on the sidelines.

New loan signing Sam Vokes will likely start on the bench after arriving from Wolves yesterday.

Palace are looking for a third successive league win over the Seagulls while Brighton will hope for a repeat performance of their last visit to Selhurst Park – the 1-0 win courtesy of McShane.

Albion have a 100 per cent record in the Championship this year but will look to improve their shots on goal ratio, which at 110 is the division’s lowest.
