Sparrow likely to miss Anfield cup clash after clumsy red

Albion midfield Matt Sparrow faces missing the club’s forthcoming cup face-off with Liverpool after seeing red for his reckless tackle on Leicester sub Ben Marshall.

The former Scunthorpe playmaker was dismissed with just minutes left on the clock as Gustavo Poyet’s Seagulls stretched their unbeaten run in 2012.

His clumsy lunge will rule him out for three games –against Leeds and Millwall in the Championship, and Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Brighton will now wait until they see the referee’s report before deciding whether or not to appeal the decision.

Sparrow has already made his feelings known on the matter. Tweeting on Saturday night he said, “Gutted about my sending off though think the ref just wanted to even things up!!”

Leicester also lost Neil Danns and Jermaine Beckford to red cards in what was a far-from-feisty affair which the Albion clinched 1v0 with late winner from Will Buckley.

Spanish star Vicente made a welcome return to the side and played a key role in setting up the winner.
