Crawley AC's Noyce and Jones set new records at Sussex Championships

Crawley AC athletes enjoyed a successful weekend at the Sussex and Surrey County Championships held at K2 Crawley and Kingston.

The club’s U20 men’s 4x100m relay team set a Sussex record when Nathan Packham, Josh Persad, Jamie Holme and Rhys Turner ran 43.99 to beat the previous record of 44.1 set 25 years ago.

The U15 girls shot putt saw victory for Millie Noyce with her best effort of 11.69m setting a new Championship Best Performance.

More than 40 years since his first appearance at the championships, Jones was competing in a Crawley AC shirt for the first time in many years having switched from Belgrave Harriers,

The 2002 Commonwealth Games champion won the senior men’s hammer.

His best throw of 62.39m was a British best in the men’s over-50 category.

But Jones’ throw doesn’t set a British masters record because he was throwing the 7.25 senior hammer and not the lighter 6kg used by veteran athletes.

In the U17 women’s pole vault Natasha Purchas set a new championship best performance, clearing 3.52m.

Rhys Turner, Adam Lindo, Abbie Packham and Vicki Pellett won multiple gold medals.
