Losing Hope Akpan to a Premier League club would be both a blow and feather in the cap for Crawley Town, manager Richie Barker has admitted.

Akpan is reportedly set to sign for Reading - Crawley’s conquerors in the FA Cup Third Round on Saturday - and would be the first player to leave the Broadfield Stadium for a top-flight club.

Barker said: “If Hope were to leave it would be a big miss. But at the same time, to sell someone to a Premier League club speaks volumes about what this club has done.
“If a big club comes in and pays a big fee, that will improve the football club and bring finances back in.”
