Crawley manager Richie Barker has demanded a ‘vast improvement’ from his side after Saturday’s FA Cup scare against Metropolitan Police.

The Reds won 2-1 after goals from Josh Simpson and Billy Clarke as they booked a Second Round tie at home to Chelmsford City, but were left hanging on at the end as Ryman Premier League outfit Met Police laid siege to the Crawley goal after Alan Tait scored with eight minutes remaining.

While Barker was pleased to be in the Second Round, he said his team could not afford another performance like Saturday’s.

“We will take it, but if we carry on playing like that we will not get very far,” Barker said. “Sometimes players have got to stand up and be counted. At the end of the day it was a strong enough team to win a League One game and the fact we were hanging on, one or two people need to have a look at themselves.

“I want more out of the individuals. I’m looking for people to stand up and be counted and show us quality. I know what the team can do, what I want is to find out what individuals can do.”
