Josh Simpson is eyeing another another famous FA Cup run ahead of this weekend’s First Round tie at Metropolitan Police.

The midfielder is one of six members of the current squad involved in the two historic cup runs to the fifth round in the last two seasons.

And despite the Reds’ rise into League One, the lure of playing a Championship or Premier League team holds as much glamour as it did two years ago.

Simpson said: “If we get through and were to draw a Championship or Premier League club it’s still massive for us and the fans. It would be nice to go one further this year, everyone is excited about the cup because of the last two seasons.”

Striker Jonte Smith, who has been on loan at Ryman Premier League outfit Met Police, but will not be able to play against his parent club, has given the Reds plenty of inside information.

Simpson added: “We know what they are about, it will be a physical encounter.”

Meanwhile, manager Richie Barker was yesterday still awaiting confirmation on whether on-loan trio Nathan Byrne, Jonathan Forte and Nicky Ajose will be allowed to play by their parent clubs. If not, he said he would be reluctant to go into the loan market.
