Edwards scored 15 goals in 94 appearances for Crawley, after joining permanently in 2014 following a loan spell from Swansea.

Crawley head coach Dermot Drummy said: “I spoke to Gwion about extending his contract beyond the end of next season but he made it clear he wanted a new challenge.

“It’s obviously disappointing to see him go because, even from the short time I worked with him, I could see his qualities. We wish him all the best for the future and thank him for his services with the club.

“It does mean that we have additional funds to invest in strengthening the squad and Matt Gray (assistant) and I are working hard on several potential signings at the moment as we prepare for the start of pre-season next week.”
