Crawley Town v Carlisle Utd: Match off
Crawley Town’s home match against Carlisle United has been postponed due to a frozen pitch.
An inspection at 10am today revealed the Broadfield Stadium playing surface had suffered in plunging temperatures, and although it had been under covers, it was ruled unplayable by referee Warren Atkin.
Snow has been falling since 8.30am and is set to continue for much of the day while temperatures are not forecast to rise above freezing for the next 48 hours.
Chief executive Richard Low said: “An area at the southern end of the pitch is still frozen and not likely to improve between now and kick off time, even though it has been covered since early in the week.
“The referee also took into consideration a very detailed forecast and had a briefing with our Safety Officer because of his obvious concerns about access to the stadium if, as is forecast, it continues to snow heavily.
“It is disappointing but we had to make an early decision with Carlisle travelling such a long distance.”
A new date for this fixture will be announced as soon as possible.
