Forte aims to end disappointing loan on a high

Jonathan Forte wants his end his Crawley loan spell on a high, but admits his stay at the Broadfield has been disappointing.

The Southampton striker scored on his debut, against Scunthorpe, at the start of a 93-day loan, but has not found the net since and has struggled to hold down a regular place.

Forte has gained a reputation as a deadly striker in League One, and enjoyed successful spells at Notts County, Crawley’s hosts on Saturday, where he scored 13 league goals in 28 appearances over three loan periods.

And after he returns to St Mary’s later this month, Forte will be looking for another club.

“I came here to get as many games as possible but that was not to be,” he said. “After scoring on my debut I expected to play more. I have not had the opportunity to play but the team is doing well so I cannot complain.

“I wanted a bit more but the club has been great, it has made me a lot better, but every player wants to play games.

Forte is unable to extend his loan and will return to Southampton, where he will assess his options in January.

Manager Richie Barker believes the Notts County game represents another yardstick for the Reds’ progress. He added: “If we finish above Notts County we will be in the play-offs.”
