Outspoken Rotherham manager Steve Evans has brandished Richie Barker’s managerial record “rubbish” after the two former Crawley Town bosses allegedly “exchanged words” following the Millers’ 2-2 draw with MK Dons on Saturday.

According to Evans the pair verbally clashed in the tunnel after the game where Barker, now the assistant manager of MK Dons, accused the Scot of leaving him a “shambles” when he took over at Crawley, following Evans’ departure for Rotherham.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, Evans said: “There’s a few words spoken in the tunnel after the game from their management team who said they don’t think we should be in the play-offs. But they thought that at the start of the season as well.

“And for their assistant manager Richie Barker to say that I left him a shambles when he was manager of Crawley, I wonder what those Crawley Town players think? I think they finished 11th last year.

“But for him to throw that old chestnut out, a manager who’s been sacked by two clubs because he’s been rubbish.”

And he added: “When you get personal and say I had to manage the rubbish you left behind, that Crawley Town team were far from rubbish was it?”

This is not the first time the two have traded insults. Earlier in the season when Barker was in charge of Crawley the pair accused each other of disrespect after Rotherham’s win at the Broadfield, and it’s clear the ill feeling between the two remains.

Barker was sacked as Crawley Town manager in November and after leaving Portsmouth by mutual consent last month took up the role as Karl Robinson’s assistant at MK Dons.
