Video: “We deserved more” says Barker after Tranmere loss

Crawley manager Richie Barker insisted his side did enough to earn a point from today’s 2-0 defeat at Tranmere Rovers.

A scrappy David Amoo opener and a Paul Jones own goal settled the match in the first half, although the Reds had plenty of bright moments, as Billy Clarke hit the post and Rovers keeper Owain Fon Williams saved from Mike Jones, Clarke, skipper Gary Alexander and Josh Simpson.

And Barker said a draw would have been a fair reflection of his side’s hard-working display.

“We did enough to get something out of it, maybe a point.” he said. “Their second goal came at the right time for them and when your luck isn’t in, it isn’t in.”

Crawley keeper Jones barely had a save to make, as the Reds spent long periods inside Tranmere territory without making the vital breakthrough as they dropped to tenth in League One.

Barker added: “We were camped inside their half for 20 minutes. But having more possession and shots does not always win you football matches.

“We have come to a side who are top of the league and if you take the goals out of the game there is nothing else in it. We have more than matched them.”
