Sussex have announced that vice-captain Chris Nash has signed a new two-year extension to his current contract, which will see him remain at The PROBIZ County Ground, Hove until at least the end of the 2016 season.

Twenty-nine-year-old Nash, who made his first-class debut for Sussex in 2002, has made over 10,000 career runs for the county and was named in the PCA Team of the Year at the conclusion of the 2012 season.

He scored 984 runs during the 2012 season in the LV=County Championship and also took 21 wickets with his off-spin.

In addition, he notched 240 runs and took 10 wickets in the Clydesdale Bank 40, and made 319 runs in the Friends Life t20 campaign, which saw the Sharks reach Finals Day at Cardiff.

This followed a year when he won the CB40 Player of the Year for 2011.

Nash is currently spending his winter playing club cricket for Western Province in South Africa, along with fellow Sussex team-mates Michael Rippon and Kirk Wernars.

He was named the county’s new vice-captain last month with his opening partner Ed Joyce as captain.

He said of his contract extension: “I am delighted to have signed for the next four years at the club which I have been at since I was nine. Our success over the past decade has been great to be part of and I look forward to continuing that with what is shaping up to be a very strong squad for 2013.

“Personally, I want to continue my good form across all competitions again next season and continue to push for higher honours.”

Mark Robinson, Sussex’s Professional Cricket Manager said: “It is good news for the Club to know that Chris will be here for a minimum of the next four years, as we embark on an important time for the club.

“It is not only Chris’s proven abilities with the bat and ball that we will be relying on, but also his ability to support and lead the team in his role as vice-captain.”
