Fazlan Nizamdeen smashed a brilliant 70 not out from 71 balls to help Eagles chase a winning target of 214 against Steyning at Cherry Lane.

Fazlan’s excellent display knock included nine 4s and three 6s.

Eagles won the toss and inserted the visitors on a good batting track, the Steyning openers got straight to work building a solid base for what looked like a 250-plus score but when Eagles strike bowler Atif Ali trapped one of the league’s highest run scores this season Hywel Jones lbw for 48 with the score on 82 the Eagles bowlers had the breakthrough they needed.

Regular wickets from Jibran Khan (5-67) and Atif Ali (4-41) pegged back the run-rate as the visitors were all out for 214 of 49 overs David Kennett top scoring with 53.

Eagles’ openers Azam Riyard and Tayyab Mahmood gave the team a solid start with a 70-run partnership but a match winning partnership of 108 between Jibran Khan 58 and Fazlan 70 not out ensured Eagles register their fourth win of the season.

Eagles captain Imran Suddahazai said: “This was a solid team performance and very pleasing to see the batsmen get into their work and chase down a good total.
