A disappointing performance from Ifield saw them fall to a 61-run defeat away to Lindfield.
Captain Jack Groves won the toss and decided to bowl first in damp conditions and rain in the air.
Ifield picked up a couple of early wickets via Sam Dorrington and Pratik Patel and with Lindfield at 26 for 2, the decision to bowl seemed a reasonable one.
Overseas player Tem Hodson steadied the innings and looked comfortable and although most of his batting partners got starts none were able to stay with him for any length of time and Ifield were able to pick up wickets at fairly regular intervals.
A couple of short rain breaks interrupted play but not enough to shorten the game and Lindfield were able to complete their full 53 overs with a total of 185 for 8 with Hodson 80 not out.
Jigar Parekh was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 26.
Lindfield’s opening attack of James Pearce and Shane Yelverton asked plenty of questions of the Ifield batsmen and Tom Wragg was back in the clubhouse with just 13 on the board after being caught behind for just six.
Paul Clifford joined Ed Sykes but it wasn’t long before he was also back in the clubhouse after a crazy mix-up led to a totally unnecessary run out and Ifield were 23 for 2.
Mike Norris and Sykes gradually started to come to terms with the bowling and the scoreboard started ticking over regularly but with the score on 50 Norris was trapped LBW by Pearce for 16 and then just four runs later Jack Groves was dismissed LBW without scoring.
Dorrington came in at number six and again looked in good nick and with Sykes looking solid at the other end Ifield were still very much in the game.
But a change of bowling saw Sykes dismissed for a patient 36 and then Dorrington went for 23 to the spin of Simon Shivnarain quickly followed by Joe Smith for 0 and Ifield found themselves at 96 for 7.
Dinesh Salunkhe and Daniel Groves produced a few lusty blows but once Groves departed for 14, quickly followed by Pratik Patel without scoring, the game was up.
Salunkhe was last man out for 25, but Ifield were 61 runs short and well beaten.
Pearce finished with 3 for 40 and Shivnarain 4 for 18.
Ifield travel across to town to Crawley Eagles this Saturday, July 9.
