Three Bridges were frustrated by being held to a draw and by the poor performance of referee Phil Rowley.

Grinstead needed the points more as they attempt to keep their Ryman League place, but they had a shaky start when keeper Seb Bos almost dropped a John Lansdale throw into his own goal.

Bridges who took a 17th minute lead when a good interchange of passes between Allan Tait and Lee Carney finally set up Tony Garrod to score his side’s 100th goal of the season.”

But then Kieron Thorp had to make a good save to deny Andy Irvine following a low cross by Ricky Freeman, and the Wasps looked the more likely side to net. But against the run of play it was Bridges who took a 17th minute lead when a good interchange of passes between Allan Tait and Lee Carney finally set up Tony Garrod to score his side’s 100th goal of the season.

Ben Godfrey had a curling shot held by Bos, but Bridges became frustrated after seeing two Grinstead players receive a talking to for fouls and then Jamie Crellin being shown a yellow card for his first challenge!

Further cautions followed for Bridges while Grinstead challenges went unpunished, and Martin Dynan looked reluctant to make a telling challenge on the stroke of half-time helped to give Irvine the chance to scramble in the equaliser.

At last a home player was booked and from the resulting free-kick, Hakeem Adelakun forced Bos to tip over in the 70th minute.

But four minutes later a deep free kick by Grinstead fell to Irvine, who turned superbly to jab home.

But after 79 minutes Bridges were back on level terms when determined play by Garrod, Tait and Godfrey created the chance for Adelakun to slam into the roof of the net.

But he then received a ridiculous caution for trying to intercept a clearance by Bos!

A draw was probably the right result though but it’s doubtful that either manager would have much praise for the referee.
