Crawley boss: ‘It was an excellent performance’

STEVE Evans believes Crawley might have gone on to thrash Hull City in the FA Cup today if they had scored a second goal.
A Matt Tubbs goal mid-way through the second half proved enough for the Reds to dump the Championship side out of the FA Cup, and book their place in the Fifth Round for a second successive season. Although Reds won 1-0, it could have been more as Sanchez Watt hit the post and Hull keeper Vito Mannone made a number of top class saves.
And Crawley manager Evans declared this win was one of the best moments in the history of Crawley Town. He said: “It ranks up there with the best of them, the fans have travelled a long way and we wanted to make sure our supporters go back on the coaches with pride.
“I think we could have won by three or four.
“The boys are pretty tired, very quiet and very mundane and there is no big scene in the dressing room, perhaps it was no big shock for us that we won here.
“It was a well worked goal, Tubbs got a little bit lucky, I think he tried to give the keeper the eyes, and he has done him. “Let’s be honest, Sanchez (Watt) should perhaps score, and the keeper has made a couple of wonder saves. I think if we had gone 2-0 it might have been embarrassing for Hull, it could have been four or five.”
Sanchez Watt, the 20-year-old Arsenal forward, was brought in on a loan until the end of the season on Thursday, and Evans praised the new addition, who was not even going to be in the side until he impressed in training yesterday morning.
“We played with three strikers, we were attack-minded and tried to take the game to them., There were some tremendous passages if play. We played some great stuff today.
“Sanchez looked electric, the plan was to have him on the bench, but on training he sat a few people on their backside, and was electric. This was an excellent performance and we can take great pride from it.”
