Crawley Town head coach Dermot Drummy has admitted his club did not receive any interest from Scottish Premiership giants Celtic or Rangers for winger Gwion Edwards.

The former Swansea City youth was sold last week to League One club Peterborough United for a six-figure sum.

But the sale went through in the midst of media reports that both of Scotland’s biggest two clubs were making bids.

The same site, HITC, said Crawley had placed an asking price of £200,000 on Edwards.

Drummy said: “I am happy with the business done on Gwion.

“On one hand you don’t want to lose a quality player, on the other hand you don’t want to be sitting in December knowing you are going to lose a quality player for no money.

“So it was a decision that initially the player, we were informed, wanted to move on and wouldn’t be signing (a new contract).

“I think you have to respect Gwion and his representatives to tell us now rather than later. I knew where I was with the dealings.

“We had to deal with a couple of clubs who made tentative enquiries but nothing that was of interest for us. So we are now happy with the deal we got.

“We had no enquiries from Celtic or Rangers.”
