Lee Fowler has announced he will not be returning to Crawley Town next season.

The popular midfielder, who many had hoped would be offered a deal in League Two, took to social media to issue his thanks to Reds fans and wish them the best for the future.

The 31-year-old, who had previously worked under then Crawley interim manager Dean Saunders at Wrexham and Doncaster Rovers, signed on a three-month loan deal from Nuneaton last January.

And a number of impressive performances from the former Coventry City player earned him an extended deal until the end of the season.

Fowler had seemed open to a permanent return next season and tweeted that he had spoken to Crawley chief executive Michael Dunford on Wednesday night, but followed that up with a statement on Thursday confirming he would not be joining new boss Mark Yates.

He said: “I would like to thank Crawley Town for giving me the chance to showcase my ability.

“Dean (Saunders) brought me in, but the club and the fans made me feel welcome in my short time there.

“My performance, I would like to think, entertained the fans. Scoring that goal v Preston was (a) special moment. It was surreal, but things come to an end and (I) wish you all the best in your promotion this season.

“Yatesy (Mark Yates) is a top man, hard-working manager. Get behind him as you did with myself and Dean.

“My daughter still sings come on Crawley.”
