Crawley Town manager Mark Yates hopes to sign a central defender in the next 24 hours.

Yates said: “The defender could be coming on a free transfer and is an experienced player at this level.”

Yates is also considering Brighton’s England Under-20 international goalkeeper Christian Walton while former Birmingham City stopper Callum Preston and Ross Worner, ex-AFC Wimbledon, are both on trial.

Ex-Spurs and Southampton striker Lee Barnard is also confirmed as being a triallist.

Former Ipswich winger Jordan Adekunle was with Yates in the first week of pre-season but has now gone.
