Arundel Reserves 3 Ifield 1
By Geoff Thornton
After two months without a game Ifield showed surprisingly little ring-rustiness as their much postponed fourth round tie in the Sussex Intermediate Cup fourth round tie finally got underway.
Less surprisingly the slick, well drilled home side proved too good for them.
The game was only seven minutes old when Arundel produced an astute low cross from the right that Luke Richards ran onto to sweep home the opening goal.
In response Harri Nourse worked an opening for himself and brought a good save from the Arundel keeper and later he rounded the stopper only for his goalbound shot to be hacked off the line.
Nourse again tested the keeper at the start of the second half but on 62 minutes, and against the run of play,
Arundel extended their lead through Ryan Peake with a diving header from a corner.
After 69 minutes the home stopper’s luck finally ran out as he parried a shot from Aiden Cawte into the path of the incoming Devon Fender to make it 2-1.
Ironically with 12 minutes remaining Arundel regained their two-goal advantage in similar fashion Ricky Gardner followed up after Mike Norris was unable to hang onto his initial effort.
Ifield: Norris; Kemp, Banks, Munday; Fender, Burgess (Rendell), Gardiner; J. Nourse (Hopkins), Bruton (Martin); H. Nourse, Cawte.
