May I pass on our sincere condolences to Ron’s wife Heather and close family, which include daughter Holly, partner Bruce, grandchildren Amy and Oliver, daughter Fern, husband James, grandchildren Isabella and William and two brothers, Michael and Leslie.

Ron was loved and respected by all at our club; he will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.”

Ron, 83, had a long career of 41 years with the Royal Mail working at their headquarters in London.

Ron and Heather moved from Tooting to Crawley in 1971 with six-week-old Holly. Over the years Heather and Ron had many happy holidays in the caravan at Roseland in Cornwall, he really enjoyed those times.

It was quite an occasion for Ron when we were promoted to the Ryman League in 2012 and played against his old favourite club, Tooting & Mitcham United.

During the late 70’s Ron joined our club and would travel anywhere, anytime to watch his new team play.

Ron gave much time and effort to the club which was appreciated by us all,

He knew everyone who came into the clubhouse and would greet them with a smile. He had strong opinions, a wicked sense of humour and was a happy man if Bridges and Arsenal won on the same day.

Ron’s happiest time at the club was probably when we won the Sussex County League and League Cup in 2012, Ron was one of the key board members which helped build a club that become Champions of Sussex.

We were all privileged to have known Ron, he is already sadly missed and always in our thoughts.

Funeral arrangements are not fully concluded however it will be a private family gathering.

Heather and the family have given our club the honour of scattering Ron’s ashes onto the pitch, this will take place at the club on 1 March 15 at 12 noon. Heather would like to invite you all to attend. Refreshments will be provided.
