Grattons mixed team travelled to Old Coulsdon who made the most of home advantage by leading by 13 shots at tea.

Despite making a gallant fightback Grattons lost two of the three rinks and by 18 shots overall.

Captain Kim said: “It’s always difficult away from home and that was certainly the case today.”

Top rink was Ron Baker, Jackie Roderick, Bert Smith and skip Kim Robinson.

The mixed team were on the mat again on Sunday at home to Brixton. Grattons won 168-88.

The top rink was: Ron Baker, Alan Rainer, Phil Gisby and skip Sheena Taylor.

On Tuesday the ladies played away at Eastbourne. It was a hard fought game with Eastbourne winning 122-100.

Captain Sue said: “Although we lost it has given a number of our new ladies a taste of playing these away games.”

Grattons men lost to Arun in the County League. Arun put on a spectacular display of how to play bowls winning five of the six rinks.

Captain Steve said: “This was really tough. Arun outplayed us on the day.”

The top rink was Ted Ockenden, Kim Robinson, Gordon Hall and skip Ralph Steele.
