Cottesmore Golf Club’s new lady captain Pat Johns held her drive-in in company with outgoing captain Christine Knight.

The person who best estimated the distance that Christine Knight would send her drive, winning a prize, was Sandra Morfey.

Ruth Leatherbarrow guessed how far Pat would drive her ball and was also rewarded with a prize.

Pat commented afterwards that Ruth obviously knew her game well as she allowed for Pat’s natural slice in her calculations!

At Cottesmore Veterans’ Golf Society annual general meeting a donation of more than £2,600 was declared to the captain’s charity, the Prostate Project, as well as £1,000 for St Catherine’s Hospice.

General manager Matthew Hazelden also outlined the investments, improvements and changes planned for the course for 2015.

The changed layout of the course, in June, to one 18-hole course and one nine-hole course will enable both courses to be maintained to the excellent standard now being experienced on the Griffin.

In 2015, Cottesmore will be celebrating 40 years as a golf club.

The new committee for 2015 was confirmed as well as new men’s captain Alan Rengger and a number of trophies were awarded.

The highlight was the annual order of merit, for the most competition points over the year which went to Mick Brown.

The meeting was followed by the captain’s pitch-out-pitch-in competition.

The veterans meet every Tuesday and includes a selection of competitions and events throughout the season.
