Howell breaks record as Crawley lift Industries Cup

Crawley Sea Angling Club won the annual Crawley Industries and Club Cup for the third year in a row.

Fishing at Seaford in wet but calm conditions, they gained a combined weight of 4.89kg. Their team members were David Howell, Steve Kerr and Kim Burgess.

The Slapheads were runners-up with a combined weight of 3.115kg. Their line-up was: Richard Gear, Jason Chandler and Dean Rutter while Three For Luck finished third. They consisted of: John Hope, C Francis and Paul Neale and they caught 1.895kg.

David Howell from Crawley Sea Angling Club was overall individual winner for the third year in succession - the first time this has ever been achieved in this competition which has been held annually since the 1960s.

He accumulated an impressive 2.06kg which included 12 whiting.

Steve Kerr was runner-up with eight whiting and one dab for a total weight of 1.67kg. Richard Gear was third with five whiting and a dogfish for 1.48kg and John Hope finished fourth with six whiting, one dab and a pouting for 1.335kg.

Gear won the Biggest Fish trophy with a dogfish of 0.40kg while the biggest flat fish prize was won by Jason Chandler with a dab of 0.17kg. Prizes and vouchers were donated by Tackle Warehouse in Manor Royal.

Crawley Sea Angling Club is looking for new members. They hold regular beach fishing events as well as organising monthly boat fishing trips.
