Crawley Judo club congratulates Michael Gander for achieving his first dan black belt.

Michael attended a dan grading in the beginning of December and attained the last remaining points that he needed in his first fight scored by an Ippon.

Michael is the second of three Gander brothers to attain first dan following on from his brother Mathew.

The third brother John is now not far from completing his Dan grade.

The three brothers have been training twice a week since they

were in the junior section.

There are two different types of Dan gradings that you can do. You can either do a technical Dan grading or a combat Dan grading.

The combat grading works in such a way that you need to earn points by winning your fights by ippon (10 points), you need 100 points to be promoted.

There is another way in the combat grading and that is that you could be promoted on the day, if you have done your dan theory is to win all your fights on the day and then get into the line-up of three fights. You need to win all three.
